Legal Alert: Deadline for Employers to File EEO-1 Extended

On February 1, 2019, the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced that the period for employers to file their EEO-1 reports has been moved for 2019. Previously, EEO-1 reports were due to be filed in the first quarter of each year. However, in 2019, due to the recent government shutdown, the period for filing the 2018 EEO-1 will open sometime in early March 2019 with a final deadline of May 31, 2019. The EEO-1 report is an annual federal requirement for employers with 100 or more employees and federal contractors with a federal contract of $50,000 or more and with 50 or more employees. The EEO-1 report is a survey of a company’s employment data categorized by race, gender and job category. Even though employers will have extra time to complete the survey this year, employers may want to go ahead and begin gathering their data from the last quarter of 2018 necessary for filling out the report. More details for filing the EEO-1 will be forthcoming on the EEO-1 website at https://www.eeoc.gov/employers/eeo1survey/index.cfm.
