I began my career in Ohio at a time when a good mortgage rate was 17% and the major steel and rubber industries in that part of the country were facing huge layoffs. This gave me an early exposure to helping clients in very difficult and challenging circumstances.
While I have worked in many different legal arenas over the years, my practice remains grounded in commercial, financial, and corporate law. Within these areas my work has tended to concentrate in areas of business disputes and transactional work. Accordingly, my time is split about equally between the courtroom and the negotiating table. I have found that the business experience I have gained with over 30 years in law firm management and as acting as general counsel to clients in the banking, telecommunication, manufacturing, construction, mining and theme park industries has given me the perspective and skills to approach my clients’ problems as both legal issues and business problems.
I have also found time to teach at the university level, to speak at local and statewide seminars, and to publish articles in professional journals.
