Andrew C. Ozete named 2019 Distinguished Barrister by Indiana Lawyer

Each year, Indiana Lawyer honors lawyers with its Leadership in Law Award. The award is based on professional achievement, community involvement and service to the legal community. We are proud to announce that Farmer Scott Ozete Robinson & Schmitt LLP Partner Andrew C. Ozete was selected as a “Distinguished Barrister” for 2019.

Andy has been in practice for over 22 years and is widely regarded as a leading creditors’ rights lawyer, particularly in complex business bankruptcy issues. His practice centers on advising businesses and banks, particularly in the areas of risk mitigation, commercial transactions, creditors’ rights, leasing and business workouts.

Andy is board certified in business bankruptcy law by the American Board of Certification. The board certification process involves a rigorous day-long exam, strict continuing legal education requirements, a comprehensive peer review from fellow practitioners and adverse counsel, and at least a five-year focus on the particular area of certification.

A frequent speaker on business, bankruptcy and creditors' rights issues, Andy has spoken on legal topics in many seminars in the banking industry and for in-house counsel.

He has been interviewed for legal articles in Evansville Business Magazine and The Indiana Lawyer and is a contributor to his firm’s blog, providing articles on topics of interest to business owners.

In October 2018, Andy was elected as Chair of the Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Section Council of the Indiana State Bar Association and has served in several capacities on the Council as a long-time member.

Andy currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Evansville Bar Association and is tapped to become its President in 3 years. Andy also donates his time to participate in a variety of EBA projects, including this summer’s volunteer build for the Mickey’s Kingdom playground.

He serves on the Vanderburgh County Law Library Foundation Board which supports the only major legal research facility in southwestern Indiana. He is also a Volunteer Lawyer for the VLP of Southwestern Indiana and is a regular participant in their Talk to a Lawyer program.

Andy’s community service covers a broad range of organizations but has a focus on youth development. He currently serves as the President of the Public Education Foundation of Evansville, which annually provides over $500,000.00 in support to all curriculum areas in the public schools of Vanderburgh County, Indiana.

Andy is also heavily involved with his church. He has provided leadership as President of the Church Council, Chairman of the Contemporary Worship Committee, President of the Christian Education Board, an adult Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School coordinator. Andy also coordinates his church’s youth group’s regular participation in preparing and serving meals at United Caring Services’ day shelter. Andy recently completed successful service to his church leading the church’s pastoral search committee.

He is also a volunteer with Young Life, an organization whose mission is to introduce adolescents to Christ and help them grow in their faith.

Indiana Lawyer has been honoring the legal community since 2006. We are so pleased to see Andy’s service recognized as a 2019 honoree.
